Faculty & Staff Spotlight | Sarah Harrington, Spanish
Would you rather win an Olympic Gold Medal or an Academy Award?
Neither, but a Grammy would be nice :)
To date, what is your greatest achievement?
I would have to say traveling the world and learning to speak 3 languages fluently. One of my favorite quotes is from an Austrian Philosopher named Ludwig Wittgenstein. He said, "The limits of my language are the limits of my world" and I have found that to be true in so many ways. There are some words in German that don't exist in English, but I just love using them because they describe exactly how I'm feeling in a given moment. Similarly, there are some words and phrases that just sound cooler when you say them in Spanish! But the best part is being able to really get to know people from so many different cultures and backgrounds and to learn from their experiences.
What do you love about Forsyth?
I love how eager the students are to learn. I have been teaching for 10 years and I've never taught to such a captivated audience as I've found in the students here at Forsyth. They are risk-takers, which is such an important quality for a foreign language learner to have. Not only do they stretch themselves, but they help me grow as an educator and I really couldn't ask for more.
