Hats for Hurricane Relief
There were a lot of hats and PJs at arrival at Forsyth on Friday morning, SEP 29. Those hats and PJs added up to $1,302.02 of good will. Funds raised by Forsyth School fifth graders will be sent to Heart to Heart International for hurricane relief.
We love PJ days and wear-a-hat-all-day-at-school days, so Forsyth fifth graders came up with a hurricane relief fundraiser built around things kids like: contribute $1 or $2 to wear a hat or PJs all day.
The fifth graders own this fundraiser. It was their idea to host a fundraiser to help people recover from recent hurricanes. They planned how to raise the money, made the promotional posters, and then researched organizations to donate to after they decided that some disaster relief organizations allocate too much of the donation to administrative fees. The kids chose Heart to Heart International because 99% of their donation will go to the cause–hurricane relief.
“The kids were thrilled,” reports fifth grade teacher John McGinley. “We spent our Morning Meeting giving one another “shout outs” for the hard work this morning and this week. It was an awesome testament to student and community spirit.”
