Forsyth LOVES our Librarian—and the American Libraries Association does, too! We are proud to share that Mrs. Melissa Pillot, Forsyth School Librarian & Media Specialist, is one of ten national winners of the American Library Association's 2022 ‘I Love My Librarian’ Award!

The 'I Love My Librarian Award' invites library users to recognize the accomplishments of exceptional public, school, college, community college, and university librarians. More than 1,300 library users across the country submitted stories highlighting how their librarians go above and beyond in their communities. This year’s award recipients include three academic librarians, four public librarians, and three school librarians—like Mrs. Pillot!

Hundreds of nominations focused on librarians’ swift and effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mrs. Susan Zareh, Forsyth Sustainability Specialist, also highlighted Mrs. Pillot’s commitment to sustainability in her nomination essay:

"While the pandemic changed many things in our homes and on our campus, Mrs. Pillot continues to be a champion and steward for the earth… No topic is too big to tackle, and no task is too small. We love our librarian who loves the earth."

Another recommendation emphasized the welcoming and inclusive environment that Mrs. Pillot maintains in the Joseph F. Hickey Library at Forsyth:

"Every time I walk into our school library, it looks a little different. Tables, comfy chairs, book carts and displays, and even the whiteboard are all on wheels. Mrs. Pillot ensures that the library is flexible for each grade's needs and creates an environment that is dynamic and engaging."

"Prospective families and our current students and faculty see their faces and lives represented in the books on display and the programs shared."

The entire Forsyth community is so proud of and grateful for Melissa Pillot, and thrilled for her to receive this well-deserved honor and national recognition! The 2022 ‘I Love My Librarian’ Award ceremony will be streamed on the American Library Association YouTube channel on Saturday, January 22.
