Forsyth parents, caregivers, teachers, staff, and trustees are invited to an evening tour of the Mill Creek: Black Metropolis exhibition at the Missouri History Museum, led by 4theville volunteers, on Thursday, April 16, at 6:30pm.

From its origins at the turn of the 20th century to its destruction in 1959, Mill Creek was a center of Black life in St. Louis—yet almost no trace of it remains here today. This exhibition explores Mill Creek as a Black metropolis and its untimely and intentional erasure from the St. Louis landscape.

RSVPs are required by Monday, April 6. Parking is plentiful at the Missouri History Museum, Forest Park Visitor Center, or on the street. Complimentary childcare is available at Forsyth School. Please drop off your child(ren) at Dunbar House no later than 6:15pm and pick them up immediately after the event.

Mill Creek: Black Metropolis explores the rich history of a St. Louis neighborhood that historians have likened to New York’s legendary Harlem. It was the home of St. Louis' major Black newspapers, the offices of numerous Black professionals, a center of social activism, and the birthplace of ragtime. All this richness thrived amid and despite racial segregation, providing African Americans with common ground and refuge from the daily slights and indignities of a stark color divide in 20th-century St. Louis.

Led by the academic team, Forsyth University provides learning opportunities for adult members of the school community. Forsyth's Board of Trustees DEI&B Committee presents this event in partnership with 4theville and the Missouri History Museum.
