Forsyth Memories
This year’s Forsyth Annual Fund Pledge Week Chairs are current parents and former students! David Furst was a member of the Forsyth Class of 2003, and Kayti Houchins attended Forsyth from 1984–90. Here, they share some favorite Forsyth memories:
David says, “I handily won ‘Best Dressed’ in our Revolutionary War living museum as Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben (also known as Baron von Steuben). All the better-known Founding Fathers were already taken!
Kayti says, “At the foot of the spiral staircase in New House is my favorite Forsyth spot. In Grade 2, we gathered there, cross-legged on the cold, speckled marble, to share what we had learned—and what we wondered about. What made us happy. What felt hard. What we hoped for. And occasionally, the very serious subject of the Oregon Trail.
Those circles never felt hurried. In these moments, the outside world seemed very far away. Beneath that winding staircase, we learned that our thoughts and feelings mattered, that we had stories worth telling, and that others’ stories were worth hearing.
The stories followed us up the staircase, out the doors of New House, across the Big Backyard, and eventually far beyond Forsyth. We carried them with us.
Over time, those small stories became something bigger. They became our legacy.”
